Labor shortage and climate change are growing challenges for medicinal plant producers

The demand for spices, aromatic, and medicinal plants is increasing, not only in Serbia but also beyond, yet production, or supply, is becoming an increasingly bigger challenge. Droughts and labor shortages are just some of the issues faced by those involved in collecting and growing these plants.

The Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pančić" was awarded the Order of Sretenje of the Third Class on the occasion of its 75th anniversary. The order was presented at the state ceremony on the National holiday, February 15, 2023.

Exhibition "Hilandar Medical Codex and Serbian Medieval Medicine"

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, the exhibition "Hilandar Medical Codex and Serbian Medieval Medicine" was ceremoniously opened at the Gallery of the Natural History Museum.

The authors of the exhibition are Alexandra Savić, museum advisor at the Natural History Museum, and Dr. Snežana Jarić, Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković."

The Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pančić" is a friend of the exhibition. On this occasion, alongside the Director of the Natural History Museum, Mr. Slavko Spasić, the exhibition's authors, and the Assistant Minister for Cultural Heritage and Digitization, Danijela Vanušić, the attendees were also addressed by the Assistant Director for Science at the Institute, Dr. Katarina Šavikin.

A study on the application of compost produced from the processing of medicinal herbs has been published.

The quality and application of compost produced from the production and processing of medicinal herbs at the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pančić" are presented in the paper titled: "Productivity and flower quality of different pot marigold (Calendula officinalis L.) varieties on the compost produced from medicinal plant waste."

Natalija Čutović was awarded the Special Recognition for 2021 at the Serbian Chemical Society’s Annual Assembly on December 7, 2022, for her outstanding achievements during her studies at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade. The Annual Assembly of the Serbian Chemical Society was held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU).
