Dr. Vladimir Filipović, an agronomist from the Department for Agricultural Research and Development, is a participant in the international Erasmus+ project titled "Urban Farming Education for a Sustainable Future", funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ program for adult education (KA220-ADU).
The focus of the project is urban agriculture, a growing global movement. Although not a new phenomenon, it has gained popularity in recent years due to emerging global challenges related to urbanization, food security, and the need for sustainable development. Urban agriculture is increasingly seen as a source of innovative ideas for addressing social and environmental issues in cities, as well as a means to mitigate the effects of ecological, economic, social, and food-related problems.
Rather than being only consumers, urban populations can learn how to grow certain types of plants themselves, with attention to sustainable practices and environmental impact, thereby creating opportunities for new employment.
The objectives of this project align with the EU Green Agenda, support the fight against climate change, and promote the sustainability of urban environments.
The implementation of project activities is scheduled to begin in mid-December, with project completion expected in the third quarter of 2024.
