Information

Tatjana Lj. Marković was born on October 21, 1966, in Užice, Republic of Serbia. She completed her primary and secondary education in Belgrade. In the 1987/88 academic year, she enrolled in the Department of Crop Science at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun, Belgrade, graduating in January 1993.

She received a scholarship from ICAMAS (International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies) to pursue specialist studies in natural products, aromatic, and medicinal plants at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute in Chania (MAICh), Greece. Upon completing these specialist studies, she earned the academic title of Specialist in Natural Products, Aromatic, and Medicinal Plants (December 9, 1994). She was awarded another ICAMAS scholarship to continue her postgraduate studies in the same field at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute, resulting in the defense of her Master's thesis on February 12, 1997. The Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun, following a recommendation from the diploma recognition commission, recognized her degree, awarding her the academic title of Master of Biotechnical Sciences in Agronomy – Plant Pathology.

As a research associate at the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pančić," she enrolled in doctoral studies at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade. On June 19, 2006, she defended her dissertation titled Morpho-Anatomical and Chemical Characterization of Populations of Tanacetum parthenium (L.) Schultz-Bip. (Compositae), earning the academic title of Doctor of Biotechnical Sciences in Crop Science.

She worked at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in the Institute for Plant and Animal Genetic Resources in New Belgrade from May to October 1997, and since 1998, she has been employed at the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pančić" in Belgrade, in the Department of Research and Development in Agriculture.

From 2007 to 2008, she served as deputy editor, and from 2009 to 2016, as editor-in-chief of the domestic scientific journal Lekovite Sirovine, published by the Institute.

She has been the head of the Department of Research and Development in Agriculture since March 2010. She served as the President of the Scientific Council from 2010 to 2014, and as Vice President from 2014 to 2018. Since 2014, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the "J. Pančić" Institute, and since 2019, she has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the "Biosens" Institute in Novi Sad.

She was appointed as a research associate in 2007, promoted to senior research associate in 2012, and has held the title of principal research fellow since 2016.

She has been a member of the Association for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries (AMAPSEEC) since its founding in 2000 and of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) since 1998. She has also been part of the working group for medicinal plants within the FAO's European System of Cooperative Research Network in Agriculture (ESCORENA) since 2012. Additionally, she has been a member of the ISO Commission for Standards and Related Documents KS H054 - Essential Oils since 2019.

She speaks, reads, and writes in English and Greek, and has a working knowledge of German.
