Information

Nada Ćujić Nikolić was born in 1986 in Belgrade, where she finished primary and secondary school. She enrolled in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Belgrade in 2006 and graduated in 2011. In 2012, she enrolled in doctoral academic studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology. During her doctoral studies, she was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development. She defended her doctoral dissertation entitled "Optimization of chokeberry fruit extraction, Aronia melanocarpa (Minchx.) Elliot, microencapsulation of the extract by electrostatic extrusion and spray drying methods" in 2017. Since 2012, she has been employed at the Institute for Medicinal Plants Research "Dr. Josif Pančić", as a research assistant since 2013, research associate since 2018, and as a senior research associate since 2023. From 2022. Dr. Ćujić Nikolić is engaged as Head of the Department for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, where she is involved in the organization of scientific research and development activities. She is a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute. During her studies, she had two study visits abroad (Ege University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Izmir, Turkey, 2011 and University College Cork and Teagasc Food Research Center, Moorepark, both in Ireland, in 2016), and under the framework of Cost Actions, in 2023 at the Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro, and 2024 at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. She participates in scientific research projects under the auspices of the relevant Ministry, the bilateral project with the Republic of Austria (2024-2026), and the project of the Science Fund, Diaspora. Actively participates in several Cost Actions, especially those oriented to examining and utilizing food waste and natural-based by-products.  Dr. Ćujić Nikolić participated in 2 bilateral projects with the Republic of Slovenia and Croatia, as well as a project with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences under the auspices of UNESCO. She collaborates with researchers from various scientific institutions in Serbia and abroad, as a multidisciplinary and internationally engaged scientist. She is leading and actively participating in internal projects of the Institute, which are related to the development of new herbal products and reflected in the practical application of scientific results. As an author and co-author, she has published more than 100 bibliographic units (23 publications in international journals of M21-M23 categories, 3 chapters in international monographs, a large number of national journals, announcements, and lectures from international conferences), with an h-index of 10 and 871 citations (without self-citations). In 2023, based on the assessment of excellence of the relevant Ministry of Science, Dr. Ćujić Nikolić was included in the 10% of excellent researchers in the field of biotechnical sciences. She reviewed a large number of scientific publications in international journals, as well as participated in the editorial board of the national journal Natural Medicinal Materials and as co-editor of the Special Issue of the journal Pharmaceutics (ISSN 1999-4923) entitled "Drug Delivery for Natural Extract Applications”. Dr. Nada Ćujić Nikolić is a member of the Bioencapsulation Research Group. She has years of experience in various fields of scientific and research work, with a focus on pharmaceutical-technological research; optimization of extraction methods (conventional and modern, with an emphasis on green extractions); the use of waste bioproducts in the field of medicinal plants and food; innovative microencapsulation techniques with modern pharmaceutical carriers; development of new pharmaceutical preparations based on medicinal herbs; chemical characterization of herbal drugs and extracts with special reference to polyphenolic compounds; stability studies; bioactivity tests; characterization of microsystems using sophisticated methods (SEM, DSC, FTIR, laser diffraction method). Dr. Ćujić Nikolić is experienced in technology transfer from laboratory production to serial production (liquid, semi-solid, and solid pharmaceutical products based on medicinal plants). She is part of the Regulatory Team for Harmonization and Cosmetic Regulation in Serbia, harmonized with EU regulations, where her commitment to compliance with regulations and improving pharmaceutical standards stands out.
