Milica Radan was born on February 21, 1994 in Nevesinje, Republika Srpska/Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she completed her primary and secondary education. She graduated at the Faculty of Pharmacy - University of Belgrade in 2017, and same year enrolled in doctoral academic studies, module Pharmaceutical Chemistry, at the Faculty of Pharmacy – University of Belgrade.
After her studies, she completed an internship and passed the professional exam for the Master of Pharmacy in November 2018. Since April 2018, she was engaged as a junior research assistant at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy – University of Belgrade, where she has been involved in the practical courses in Pharmaceutical Chemistry 3. She was the mentor of one student's research work. She was promoted to the title of research assistant in May 2021. Since October 2021, she has been employed at the Institute for Medicinal Plants Research "Dr. Josif Pančić", at the Department for Pharmaceutical Research and Development. She defended her doctoral dissertation in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry in September 2022 under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Katarina Nikolić, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy - University of Belgrade. She was elected to the position of research associate in January 2023.
She is the author of 20 research papers published in national and international journals
as well as several short presentations, and number of announcements from international
meetings. During the month of April 2023, she was on a professional stay at the Zurko Research company (Madrid, Spain) within the EthnoHERBS project called "Conservation of European Biodiversity through Exploitation of Traditional Herbal Knowledge for the Development of Innovative Products, H2020-MSCA-RISE- 2018-823973". She actively participated in the international COST ERNEST project (CA 18133), where she was awarded for the flash talk presentations. Currently, she is an active member of several COST actions: CA22134, CA22146 and CA22161. Under the framework of FoodWaStop COST Action (CA22134), she was granted a short-term scientific mission at the Department of Pharmacognosy and Biomaterials, Faculty of Pharmacy, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland. She also participated in training schools organized by the FLAVOURsome (CA22161) and DIVERSICROP (CA22146) COST Actions.
She serves as the associate editor of the Lekovite sirovine journal (Natural Medicinal
Materials), published by the Institute for Medicinal Plants Research "Dr. Josif Pančić", and as a co-guest editor of the Pharmaceutics (ISSN 1999-4923) Special Issue “Drug Delivery for Natural Extract Applications”. Since January 2023, she has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Medicinal Plants Research "Dr. Josif Pančić."
Her research interest centres on the application of various molecular modelling techniques for pharmacophore analysis and binding kinetics of structurally different ligands, the application of in vitro and in silico methods for assessing the permeation of compounds through membranes, the optimization of the extraction processes as well as the application of high-performance liquid chromatography in analyzing the retention properties of compounds.
