She was born in 1968 in Bačka Palanka. She completed Secondary Medical School "Dr. Ruzica Rip", the Pharmacy Technician Department, with an average grade of 5.00. In 1987, she began her studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Belgrade and finished her studies in 1992 with an average grade of 9.66. D. Bigović enrolled in her graduate studies in 1994 at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Belgrade, the Pharmaceutical Technology Department. In 2007, she enrolled in the PhD programme at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Cosmetology at the Faculty of Pharmacy. She defended her doctoral dissertation entitled ”Characterization of dry extracts of everlasting inflorescences, Helichrysum plicatum DC., and assaying their antioxidant, cytotoxic, spasmolytic, and antimicrobial activity” in 2013.
From 1992. to 1999, she was working at the ICN Galenika, the Centre for Research and Development of Pharmaceutical Technology. During that period, she formulated and implemented eight drugs for veterinary use in regular production. Since 1999, she has been employed at the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pancic," holding the following positions: Head of Plant Primary Processing Department (1999–2002), Head of the Pharmaceutical Production Department (2002–2009), Assistant Director for the Production Sector (2010–2021), and Senior Scientific Associate in the Department for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (since 2021).
Her scientific interests are pharmaceutical technology and formulation of herbal preparation products based on medicinal plants, chemistry and pharmacological characterization of plant extracts and essential oils, pharmacognosy research, ethnopharmacology research, phytotherapy, and technology transfer.
The results of her scientific research work, Dr. Dubravka Bigovic has published more than 70 bibliographies, of which 33 belong to original scientific works published in international and national journals, 11 technical solutions applied at the national level , valued by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development and one patent registered at the international level. He is the co-author of a chapter in a monograph of leading international importance (M13), 6 papers in international journals of exceptional value (M21a), 7 papers in top international journals (M21), 3 papers in a prominent international journal (M22), 4 papers in an international journal (M23) and 10 papers in a national journal of international importance (M24). Dr. Bigovic has been involved in many projects of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Development, the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, the Fund for Innovations (Innovation Vouchers), and the international project “Horizon 2020-MSCARISE-2017: Conservation of European Biodiversity through Exploitation of Traditional Herbal Knowledge for the Development of Innovative Products (ETNOHERB). She participated in a bilateral cooperation project with the Republic of Croatia (2019–2022) and she is the head of the project team within the agreement on business and technical cooperation between the Institute for the Study of Medicinal Plants "Dr. Josif Pančić" and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka. She is an active participant in internal projects of the Institute that are related to the development of new herbal products of the Institute, and that presented the practical application of scientific results. She is a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research "Dr. Josif Pancic , the Pharmaceutical Associations of Serbia, the Committee for Standardization in the Field of Cosmetic Products of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia, and the Group of Cosmetics Manufacturers and Group of Carriers and Distributors of Cosmetic Products of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia. As a co-mentor or committee member, she participated in the preparation of four doctoral dissertations.Her citation index is 12, according to the Scopus index base Number of citations (excluding self-citations is 600).
