Jana Žilović, master engineer of technology, was born on September 20, 2000, in Belgrade, where she completed her elementary and high school education. In the academic year 2019/2020, she began her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade, specializing in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology.  She graduated in September 2023 with a Bachelor's degree, after successfully defending her thesis entitled „Application of Ionic Liquids for the Extraction of Waste Biomass from Nettle and Corn Processing“ under the mentorship of Dr. Aleksandra Đukić Vuković, earning the highest grade. Throughout her studies, she acquired an average grade of 9.88. In the academic year 2023/2024, she enrolled in the Master's program in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the same faculty. Her Master's thesis, entitled „Fermentation of Populus sp. Buds Using Lactic Acid Bacteria“ was written under the guidance of  Dr. Aleksandra Đukić Vuković and Dr. Ana Žugić and successfully defended in September 2024. During her Master’s studies, she maintained an average grade of 9.88. In 2024, she continued her academic journey by enrolling in the PhD program in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy.

During her undergraduate studies, she received a scholarship from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy for being one of the top three students in her class. Additionally, she was granted the Scholarship for Exceptionally Gifted Students by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia, which she received throughout both her undergraduate and Master’s studies. At the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, she was honored with the „Panta S. Tutundžić“ award five times, in recognition of her exceptional academic performance each year. She is also a recipient of the Special Award for Outstanding Achievement during her studies, presented by the Serbian Chemical Society. In 2022, she participated in an event organized by the Center for Scientific Research Work of Students (CNIRS), where she presented her research. During her Master’s studies, she completed an internship at the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research „Dr. Josif Pančić“, where she conducted part of the experimental work for her Master’s thesis. She speaks English fluently and has a working knowledge of German. Since March 2025, she has been employed at the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research „Dr. Josif Pančić“, as a Junior Research Assistant at the Department of Pharmaceutical Research and Development.

Her research focuses on medicinal plants and bioactive compounds, and microbial fermentation.
